Kirkwood women nip No.9 Owens in opener

WEST BURLINGTON - Danielle Woolfolk made two free throws with 15 seconds left Friday to snap a 63-63 tie and give Kirkwood a 65-63 victory over No.9 Owens in the opening round of the Southeastern Classic in West Burlington.

Woolfolk led the Eagles in their first game of the season with 15 points. Cassidy Clark scored 10 points. Hanna Haynes contributed five blocks and five rebounds. Zoe Kelso had seven rebounds.

Eboni Adams led Owens with 14 points. Kamilah Carter scored 13 points.

 

Kirkwood trailed by 10 points in the second half, 48-38, but the Eagles went on a 20-4 run and grabbed a 58-52 advantage. Owens (Ohio) rallied to tie the game, 63-63.

Owens had two shots in the final seconds after Woolfolk hit her free throws, but missed both times.

Kirkwood plays Lewis & Clark (Ill.) Saturday at 11 a.m.
