Blood wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Prairie sophomore Rylee Blood is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Blood is one of the top bowlers in Iowa. She ranks second in the state with a 215.9 game average and also ranks second with a 431.7 series average.

Blood participated in the Class 2A state meet last year as a freshman. The state qualifying meet for this year's tournament will be held Tuesday at Lancer Lanes.

Here is our Question-&-Answer session with Rylee Blood:

MSR: What has been your favorite individual highlight in sports?

RYLEE: My overall favorite individual highlight in sports has most definitely been going to state last year as a freshman. I did not really know what to expect because obviously it was my first appearance at the state bowling tournament. But I was glad I got to experience it and I hope I get more chances to go to the state tournament.

MSR: What has been your favorite team highlight in sports?

RYLEE: My favorite team highlight was this past year in December at the Prairie Baker Tournament when our team took second in this tournament. This was a huge accomplishment for us because this proved that we can come together as a team under pressure and be the best team we could be. At the start of the season, the returning varsity and I were not so sure on what to expect this year. But we definitely proved ourselves wrong and we are very happy with how this season turned out.

MSR: Who has had the biggest influence on your sports career?

RYLEE: My parents have had the biggest influence on my sports career. Aside from bowling I also play volleyball and run track. So we always keep a busy schedule. Not much down time. My dad has always been the one coaching me in bowling since I have started. So both my parents are always pushing me to do the best I can.

MSR: What are your future goals in sports?

RYLEE: My future goal in sports is to possibly bowl in college. I would love to continue to bowl the rest of my life and stay active with other sports as well.

MSR: What are your favorite classes in school?

RYLEE: My favorite classes in school are math and gym. I love to stay active and play games but I also like algebra. A little hard thinking couldn't hurt anyone!

MSR: What has been your favorite community service project?

RYLEE: My favorite community service project is helping out at younger girls volleyball camps. It's really fun to watch all the girls have fun and learn how to play the game. I was one of them one time and looked up to the older girls and I know they look up to me, so I love to help them and be their idol just like the older girls were for me.
