MARSHALLTOWN - The Linn-Mar and Jefferson track teams combined for 18 gold medals at the Class 4A state qualifier coed meet in Marshalltown Thursday.

The Linn-Mar girls, led by triple-champ Stephanie Jenks, captured eight events and claimed the team championship with 179.5 points.

The Jefferson girls, always strong in the relays, won five events and finished third in the standings with 116 points.

The Linn-Mar boys, led by triple-champ Josh Evans, won five events and placed third in their team standings.

Jenks won the 800, 1500 and 3000 meter runs for Linn-Mar. The Lions also got victories from Amber Decker in the 400, Dana Sublett in the 400 hurdles, the 4x400 relay, the 4x800 relay and the distance medley.

Madison Ranschau captured the 100 hurdles for Jefferson. The J-Hawks also grabbed the 4x100 relay, 4x200 relay, sprint medley and shuttle hurdle relay.

Jefferson sprinters Jasmine Blue (100) and Lucy Schneekloth (200) placed second in their races and advanced to state.

Evans won the 800 and 3200 meter runs for Linn-Mar and anchored the distance medley to victory. He placed second in the 1600 to automatically qualify for state in that event as well.

Curtis McCrary claimed the long jump for Linn-Mar. The Lions also won the 4x100 relay.

Nate Karlan of Jefferson placed second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes to automatically qualifier for state. The J-Hawks placed third in the 4x200 relay and hope to make the state meet with an at-large berth in that event.
