Future Cyclones will clash at Prairie

Julian Good-Jones of Cedar Rapids Washington and Bryce Meeker of Cedar Rapids Prairie will try to bolster the offensive line when they enroll at Iowa State next year, but first they'll play against other when the top-ranked Warriors and Hawks meet at Prairie Friday night.

Good-Jones, who stands 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, and Meeker, who is 6-5 and 300, play offense and defense for their high school teams, so they could bang heads at John Wall Field.

Good-Jones and the Warriors are 6-0 and ranked No.1 in Class 4A. Prairie is sitting at 3-3 with an up-and-down season.

In other games Friday night, Cedar Falls visits Linn-Mar in a showdown for the Class 4A District 5 lead, Xavier visits Dubuque Wahlert, Jefferson hosts Waterloo West, Kennedy visits Waterloo East, Marion hosts Western Dubuque and Cedar Valley Christian visits West Central.

Cedar Falls (5-1, 2-0 4A District 5)
Linn-Mar (5-1, 2-0 4A District 5)

The Linn-Mar Lions have quietly gone about their business this season, with the only blemish a loss to Washington. Linn-Mar is ranked No. 9 by the Des Moines Register, but the Lions could have their hands full with a speedy, talented team from Cedar Falls.

Linn-Mar quarterback Ryan Schmidt has passed for 637 yards and 5 TDs. He's also carried the ball 82 times for 217 yards and 11 TDs.

Perrion Scott has rushed for 488 yards and five TDs for Linn-Mar. He's also caught 10 passes for 75 yards. Garret Evans has nine receptions for 144 yards. Trevor Noble has eight catches for 185 yards.

Rock Bowl, Loras College, 7:15 p.m.

Xavier (4-2, 3-1 3A District 4)
Wahlert (2-4, 2-1 3A District 4)

Two old friends from the Mississippi Valley Conference clash in a 3A district game at Loras College.

The fifth-ranked Saints are looking to bounce back from last week's 7-6 loss to Western Dubuque, when they failed to complete a single pass and were limited to about 150 yards of total offense.

Jay Kortemeyer has carried the ball 109 times for 566 yards for Xavier. Sean Murphy gave the Saints a spark off the bench last week and has 194 yards on 23 attempts.

Quarterback Bryce Schulte has passed for only 361 yards and two touchdowns. He has rushed for nine TDs.

WATERLOO WEST at JEFFERSON
Kingston Stadium, 7:15 p.m.

Records:

Waterloo West (2-4, 1-1 4A District 5)
Jefferson (3-3, 1-1 4A District 5)

Jefferson was handled by Cedar Falls last week and the J-Hawks need to beat Waterloo West to boost their hopes of a winning season.

Quarterback Jesse Furrow remains the big story at Jefferson. He has thrown for 953 yards and nine TDs and leads the Metro in passing. Many Olutunde, Bryce Lund, Valentino Green and Mason Furnish have been his favorite targets in a balanced passing attack. They all have eight to 10 catches.

Tavian Rashed has rushed 78 times for 372 yards.

WESTERN DUBUQUE at MARION
Thomas Park, 7:15 p.m.

Western Dubuque upset then-No.1 Xavier, 7-6, last week with an impressive performance on defense. Marion has struggled to mount a consistent attack this season and will need to get moving to stay in the game.

Kory Walsh has carried the ball 101 times for 478 yards for Marion. Quarterbacks Hayden Meister and Gage Kray have completed 30 of 76 passes for 456 yards and seven touchdowns.

Tyler Dralle has rushed for 351 yards for Kennedy and Logan Wedo has 291 yards.
