Hembera sisters net 53 in victory

CENTRAL CITY - Shelby Hembera began the new high school basketball seasonĀ in style Tuesday night. And this time her kid sister joined the fun.

Senior Shelby Hembera collected 42 points, 19 rebounds and five assists as Cedar Valley Christian belted Central City, 65-27, in the season opener in Central City.

Freshman Molly Hembera made her varsity debut for the Huskies with 11 points, giving the sisters a grand total of 53 markers.

Freshman Marie Cechota contributed seven rebounds for Cedar Valley Christian.

It took the Huskies 20 games to win their first (and only) contest last season. Now they have begun the new campaign with a victory already.

Cedar Valley has 11 players on the roster this season, but three of them will not be eligible until mid-January. The Huskies played Tuesday night with six freshmen, a sophomore and one senior.

Shelby Hembera made 17 field goals and was 8 for 10 at the foul line. The Huskies led at halftime, 38-13.
