Boonstoppel hits 8 straight 3's for Mustangs

James Boonstoppel was un-Stoppel-ble for the Mount Mercy men's basketball team Wednesday night.

Boonstoppel made eight straight 3-pointers before he finally missed as the 16th-ranked Mustangs mauled St. Ambrose, 93-54, in a Midwest Collegiate Conference game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Boonstoppel, a senior from Adelaide, Australia, finished 8-for-9 from long distance for 24 points. He missed his final 3-pointer with 10:08 left in the game and did not shoot again.

Boonstoppel has been a 3-point marksman for the Mustangs all season with 53 of 118 in 19 games for 44.9 percent.

Mount Mercy raised its records to 16-3 overall and 4-0 in the league with its ninth straight win.

Ben Struss contributed 13 points and six rebounds for the Mustangs. Ian Matos had 12 points and six rebounds. Alex Houston finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Dondre Osborne had eight points and eight assists.

Nobody scored in double figures for St. Ambrose (10-7, 2-2).
