Mount Mercy men edge Ashford, 62-61

Dondre Osborne made two free throws with six seconds left  the clock to give the 14th-ranked Mount Mercy men’s basketball team a 62-61 win over Ashford on Saturday at the Hennessey Rec Center.

James Boonstoppel led the Mustangs with 12 points. Ben Struss scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Ian Matos had 10 points.

It was the 12th consecutive win for Mount Mercy, which is 19-3 overall and 6-0 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference.

Diamontae McKinley scored 24 points to lead Ashford (13-11).

ASHFORD (61): McKinley 9 2-2 24, Walton 4 6-8 14, Walls 2 1-2 5, Overton 1 2-2 4, Woods 2 2-2 8, Lowery 0 0-0 0, Harris 3 0-0 6. Totals 21 13-16 61.

MOUNT MERCY (62): Osborne 2 2-2 6, Matos 4 1-1 10, Boonstoppel 3 3-4 12, Struss 3 4-4 11, Lamaak 3 3-4 9, Goines 1 0-0 3, Murdock 0 0-0 0, Johnson 1 2-2 4, Price-Majors 2 3-4 7, Clark 0 0-0 0, Gogg 0 0-0 0. Totals 19 18-21 62.
