No.7 Kirkwood women roll by Spartans

The seventh-ranked Kirkwood Eagles scored the first 18 points of the gameĀ Saturday and cruised to a 76-32 victory over Southwestern Community College in a women's basketball game at Johnson Hall.

Kirsten Larson popped in four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for the Eagles in the first 5 minutes and 15 seconds of the ballgame against the overmatched visitors from Creston.

Kirkwood bolted to a 28-2 lead before Southwestern made its first field goal with 7:23 left in the first half. Southwestern made only two baskets in the first half (2 of 23) and trailed 43-11 at intermission.

Larson finished with a game-high 15 points for the Eagles, who raised their records to 23-5 overall and 11-1 in the conference. The Eagles are in first place in the ICCAC with two games left in the regular season.

Casey Miles scored nine points for Kirkwood. Cassidy Clark had eight points. Addie Oberman and Madison Wood pitched in seven points apiece.

Tyra Polite did not play for the Eagles Saturday due to an ankle injury.

Southwestern fell to 3-24 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
