Ex-Eagle Ashton to play at ISU

Former Kirkwood guard Jordan Ashton committed Sunday to play at Iowa State as a preferred walk-on.

An all-state performer at Mount Pleasant High School, the 6-foot-4 Ashton averaged 16.4 points a game this past season for the Eagles. He was named an NJCAA all-American after helping Kirkwood to a 25-7 record.

Playing for former Cyclone guard Bryan Petesen, Ashton, who will have two years of eligibility at Iowa State, shot 46.4 percent from the field, including 43.4 percent from the 3-point line.

He led Mount Pleasant won the Class 3A state title in 2012 as a senior. He originally went to Northwest Missouri State where he redshirted on 2012-13 and played in 2013-14 before moving on to Kirkwood.
