Marion suffers two tough losses

The Marion High School baseball team suffered a pair of frustrating losses to West Delaware on Wednesday night in a Wamac Conference doubleheader at the Marion Field.

Both games went extra innings. West Delaware won the first game, 5-4, in eight innings and captured the second game, 13-6, in nine innings.

West Delaware is ranked No. 4 in Class 3A.

The visitors scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to tie the opener to force extra innings, then claimed victory with a run in the eighth. Gage Kray had three hits for Marion. Maverick Miller and David Kuhn had two hits.

West Delaware erupted for seven runs in the ninth inning of the nightcap to finish the sweep. Kuhn and Miller had three hits for Marion. Bobby Vanderlind and John Carstensen had two RBIs.

Marion dropped to 18-12 for the season.
