Trey Beckman wins Metro Spotlight Award

Trey Beckman of Cedar Rapids Prairie is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Beckman, a senior, is one of the top baseball players in the Metro area. He is hitting .421 with 19 RBIs and doing an excellent job on defense in left field for the Hawks.

Beckman has collected 11 doubles and one triple this season. He's also 18 for 20 in stolen bases.

Prairie is ranked No. 5 in Class 4A with a 28-7 record. The Hawks won their first Mississippi Valley Conference title in school history this season by capturing the Mississippi Division crown and have the best record in the MVC in either division at 21-5.

Prairie has doubled its victory total from 2014, jumping from 14 victories to 28. The 21 conference victories and 28 overall wins are both school records.

Beckman plans to play baseball at Wabash Valley Community College in Illinois next year.
