Madison Bach wins Metro Spotlight Award

Madison Bach of Marion High School is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Bach, a senior, has blossomed into one of the top cross country runners in the state this year and is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A by the Iowa Track Coaches Association. She placed 21st at the state meet last fall, but appears headed for a much higher finish this year.

Bach enjoyed a remarkable week with two major victories in the space of five days.

On Tuesday, she won the 5K race at the Center Point-Urbana Invitational and led Marion to the team championship. And on Saturday, she won the 5K race at the 37th Annual Mustang Invitational in Independence and led the Indians to the team championship again.

Incredibly, Bach has had to share bragging rights in her own family withher brother this past week. Myles, a sophomore at Marion, duplicated his sister's accomplishments by winning the races at Center Point-Urbana and Independence and leading the Indians to the team titles.

Madison Bach placed third at the Cedar Rapids Prairie Invitational to begin the season and finished fifth at the Cedar Rapids Invitational at Noelridge Park Sept. 10. All of the runners who finished ahead of her in those races were from Class 4A schools.

The Marion girls are ranked No. 8 as a team.
