England, Uthoff win titles for Prairie

GENESEO, Ill. - Marcus England and Sam Uthoff won titles for the Cedar Rapids Prairie wrestling team at the Geneseo Invitational Saturday.

England, who is ranked No. 5 at 113 pounds, pinned Jacob Schipper of North Scott in 3:02 for his crown. England went 3-0 in the tournament with three straight pins.

Uthoff, who is ranked No. 1 at 132 pounds, raised his record to 24-0 with a 12-2 major decision over Josh Jones of Chicago Heights in the finals. Uthoff went 4-0 in the tournament with three pins and a technical fall.

Taylor Mehmen placed second at 195 pounds for Prairie.

The Kennedy Cougars made a strong showing in the tournament with Nolan Hromidko (126), Logen Rodriguez (152), Ben Sarasin (160) and Dalles Jacobus (220) all placing second. Garrett Kubovec finished third at 170 pounds.

Chicago Heights and New Lenox, a pair of wrestling powers from Illinois, tied for the title with 185.5 points. Prairie finished third with 158 points and Kennedy was fourth with 125 markers.
