Marion girls hand CPU first loss

The Marion High School girls basketball team knocked off Center Point-Urbana, 61-54, Friday night at Marion and moved into a tie with the Stormin' Pointers for first place in the West Division of the Wamac Conference.

Both teams have 10-1 records in the division with two games left.

Center Point-Urbana, which is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 17-1 overall. Marion, which is ranked No. 7 in Class 4A, raised its overall mark to 13-4.

Center Point-Urbana won the first game against Marion this season, 58-42, on Dec. 18 in Center Point, but the rematch belonged to the Indians.

Marion blistered the Stormin' Pointers 16-4 in the second quarter and opened a 17-point lead in the third quarter.

Chloe Rice led Marion with 19 points and nine rebounds. Mia Laube added 14 points and eight rebounds for the winners.

Arika Wooldridge topped Center Point-Urbana with 18 points.
