Fleming joins IWSL for 2018 campaign

The Iowa Women's Softball League featured players from colleges throughout the Midwest last season.

Now the IWSL is heading East.

Allison Fleming, a freshman at Albright College in Reading, Pa., has joined the league for the 2018 campaign, making her the first representative from a school in Pennsylvania in the league.

Albright College is an NCAA Division III school that competes in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

Fleming is a catcher and outfielder who attended Urbandale High School. She is the 25th player to enroll in the Iowa Women's Softball League for 2018 with many more on the way.

The vast majority of registered players are currently attending colleges in Iowa, of course, but the IWSL also has attracted players from schools in Minnesota, Utah, Oklahoma and South Dakota for next summer.

The Iowa Women's Softball League was created by the Metro Sports Report to give college players a league of their own. There will be two divisions in 2018, with the Eastern Division in Cedar Rapids and the new Central Division in Ames and Indianola.

The entire registration process can be handled online. Go to MetroSportsReport.com and click on the MSR Summer Softball tab at the top of the home page. That will take you to the IWSL softball page and the registration link. Please have a credit card handy to pay the $100 player fee.

The 2018 season will consist of a series of eight Sunday doubleheaders in June and July for a 16-game season. Each player will get a team jersey and league T-shirt.

The Hawkeye Convenience Stores are the title sponsor for the Iowa Women's Softball League.
