Eagles edged by No. 5 Cowley

FORT DODGE - The 12th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles were trimmed by  fifth-ranked Cowley County, 3-2, in the opening round of the Iowa  Central volleyball tournament Friday in Fort Dodge.

The Eagles rebounded with a 3-0 victory over the Grand View junior  varsity in their second match.

Cowley and Kirkwood split their first two sets. Cowley won the  marathon third set, 31-29, but the Eagles rebounded with a 25-14  victory to square the match at 2-2. Cowley took the fifth set, 15-12.

Lauren Keane rolled up 46 assists against Cowley. Alexa Aldrich-Ingram  had 25 kills, Sami Johnson 12 and Haleigh Durnin 10. Maddie Lavenz  contributed 23 digs and Chloe McNeese had 14. Aldrich-Ingram and Abbi  Tunis blocked six shots.

Aldrich-Ingram had 10 kills against Grand View and Tunis had seven.  Keane distributed 24 assists. Johnson had eight digs. Maddie Huff and  Tunis blocked five shots.

The split left Kirkwood with a 26-7 record.
