Mustangs edged by St. Ambrose, 75-74

DAVENPORT - Jake Meeske made a free throw with three seconds remaining Wednesday night to snap a tie and give St. Ambrose a 75-74 victory over Mount Mercy in a non-conference basketball game on the Leo Kilfoy Court inside of Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport.

Mychael Brawner-Henley, who struggled all night with his 3-point shooting for Mount Mercy, canned a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to tie the ballgame at 74-74.

The Mustangs fouled Meeske, who made his first foul shot to give the Bees their final margin.

Mount Mercy (2-1) launched 52 3-pointers in the 40-minute contest and made 17 for 32.7 percent. All told, the Mustangs shot 27 for 70 from the field for 38.6 percent.

Brawner-Henley, who shot 7-for-8 on 3-pointers in the first half against Viterbo last week, was only 2-for-13 from long range against St. Ambrose.

Antwain Strong collected 16 points and seven assists for Mount Mercy. Dennis McKinney provided 16 points and eight rebounds. Bailey Basala scored 14 points. Brawner-Henley finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Mustangs hurt themselves by shooting 3-for-9 at the foul line.

Warren Allen scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for St. Ambrose (3-1).
