Mount Mercy baseball splits pair

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Tito Berdecia belted a home run on Saturday to help Mount Mercy top Evangel, 7-4, in the second game of their Heart of America Conference doubleheader.

Evangel rallied for a 5-4 victory in the first game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Berdecia, hitting in the cleanup spot, drove in two runs in the 7-4 victory. Evan Jackson was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Chili Moseley also had two hits and Nick Sueppel drove in two runs.

Blake Willenborg allowed only two earned runs in four innings for the victory in Game 1.

The Mustangs enjoyed a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning in the first game, but Evangel scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and scored two more runs in the seventh for the walk-off victory.

The split left the Mustangs at 4-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Evangel is 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the league.
