ROCKFORD, Ill. - Freshmen Anna Gorsich and Olivia Richards made impressive debuts for the fourth-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team Friday at the McHenry Invitational in Rockford, Ill.

Gorsich and Richards both had 19 kills as the Eagles defeated Waubonsee, 19-25, 25-20, 25-11, 26-24, and swept Illinois Valley, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23, in the season openers.

Gorsich, from Linn-Mar High School, collected 10 kills, 10 digs and five aces against Waubonsee. Richards, from Xavier High School, had 10 kills, five digs, three blocks and two aces in that match.

Gorsich contributed nine kills and eight digs against Illinois Valley. Richards had nine kills and 12 digs in that contest.

Abbie Ericson had nine kills against Waubonsee. Madi Wagaman had 28 assists. Maranda Wheelock made 16 digs. Maggie Peters, a freshman from Cedar Rapids Jefferson, blocked six shots against Waubonsee.

Wagaman had 27 assists against Illinois Valley. Wheelock had 12 digs.

Kirkwood (2-0) has two more matches in the tournament Saturday.
