Mustangs battle for 1-1 draw in 2 OTs

BENEDICTINE, Kan. - The Mount Mercy and Benedictine men's soccer teams  battled for as long as they could under NAIA rules, but it was not  long enough to determine a winner.

Mount Mercy and Benedictine fought to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime  Saturday in a Heart of America Conference marathon in Kansas.

Mount Mercy took a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute of the second half on a  goal by Rafael Passanha on an assist from Nikola Petrovic. Benedictine  countered in the 72nd minute on a goal by Girma Kassa and nobody  scored again in regulation, the first overtime or second OT.

The result left the Mustangs at 6-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the  conference. Benedictine is 5-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the league.

The Mount Mercy women's soccer team lost to Benedictine, 7-0, and  managed just one shot on goal. The Mustangs fell to 1-9-1 overall and  0-5 in the conference. Benedictine is 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the  league.
