Mount Mercy rally falls short

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - A furious rally by the Mount Mercy women's  basketball team fell a little short Saturday.

The Mustangs lost to Baker University, 59-55, in a Heart of America  Conference game after falling behind by 21 points.

Mount Mercy trailed 49-28 early in the fourth quarter, but they caught  fire for a 16-0 run and pulled within five points at 49-44.

The Mustangs later drew within three points at 56-53 on a 3-pointer by  Sandra Mia with 31 seconds left and within three points again at 58-55  on a basket by Grace Stalzer with 15 seconds remaining, but the rally  ended there.

Brianna Thomas scored 17 points for Mount Mercy (5-20, 2-18). Mia  finished with 15 points.

Madison Becker scored 14 points for Baker (9-16, 6-14).

MOUNT MERCY (55): Brianna Thomas 7-20 1-2 17, Sandra Mia 6-16 2-3 15,  Sarah Moffett 3-5 2-3 8, Paris Sheck 2-4 0-1 5, Kyleigh Milan 0-7 0-0  0, Grace Stalzer 3-5 0-0 6, Chailey Cabalis 1-6 2-4 4, Randi Wright  0-1 0-0 0, Aleah Cook 0-0 0-0 0. Totals 22-64 7-13 55.
