Tatge socks 3 homers to lead nation

OSKALOOSA - Kayla Tatge belted three more home runs for the Kirkwood softball team Tuesday as the ninth-ranked Eagles swept a doubleheader from William Penn, 6-0 and 9-0, in Oskaloosa.

Tatge has hit 16 homers this season to lead all NJCAA Division II players in the nation, according to the NJCAA website.

Tatge socked all three of her round-trippers and drove in five runs in the second game. She has 36 RBIs in 23 games this season.

Kristen Winter hit a home run, collected three hits and score three runs for Kirkwood (20-3) in the second game. Shy Saladino (6-0) tossed a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts.

Lauren Smith hit a home run and Winter had two hits in the opener. Amber Logemann (7-3) struck out seven batters in three innings for the victory.

Logemann was named the ICCAC Softball Athlete of the Week after striking out a school-record 19 batters in a game last week.
