MASON CITY - Kirkwood Coach Todd Rima sent his new team against his old team Saturday and came away with a split in Mason City.

Kirkwood bopped NIACC, 14-4, in the first game in six innings as Dairo Gonzalez went 4-for-4, scored four runs and drove in three runs.

NIACC took the nightcap, 8-2.

Rima won 358 games in 11 years as the head coach at NIACC and took the team to new heights before moving to Kirkwood this season.

Collin Belk raised his record to 5-0 with a complete-game victory in the opener. Jean Carlos Rodriguez went 2-for-3, scored three runs and drove in two runs. Milton Croes was 2-for-2, hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Eagles (17-3, 5-1).

NIACC hit three home runs off Belk.

Tanner Unkel, a Cedar Rapids Jefferson graduate, went 2-for-4, scored two runs and drove in two runs in the nightcap for NIACC (12-4, 4-2).

There was a 90-minute rain delay during the first game.

Kirkwood and NIACC are scheduled to play another doubleheader on Sunday.
