Kirkwood Community College is the only school in Iowa offering a state approved online certificate program for K-12 coaching.

The online program enables students to learn at their pace, wherever they are, and whenever they are available. The next online program begins Nov. 4 through Kirkwood's Continuing Education.

To coach K-12 school-sponsored athletics in Iowa, state certification is required. The online program complements Kirkwood's seminar or in-class program in addition to recertification classes.

According to Program Developer Kristin Hanneman, enrollment has been about 50/50 in the ratio of online to classroom programs. "People really appreciate the convenience the new online program offers. It allows people from across the state to take advantage of an education through Kirkwood," said Hanneman.
