Xavier High School junior Adam McDermott is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.
McDermott is a 6-foot-3 guard for the Xavier basketball team, which is ranked No.10 in Class 3A with a 4-2 record.
McDermott is averaging 15.8 points and approximately 6.6 rebounds for the Saints. He scored 23 points, made five 3-pointers and grabbed nine rebounds against Mount Pleasant and finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and four 3-pointers against Ottumwa.
McDermott banked in a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to beat Jefferson, 36-35, this season.

MSR: What is your favorite individual highlight in sports?
ADAM: My favorite individual highlight would be making a halfcourt buzzer-beater to beat Jefferson earlier this year.
MSR: What is your favorite team highlight in sports?
ADAM: My favorite team highlight would be from earlier in the year when we beat the defending 3A state champs, Waverly-Shell Rock.
MSR: What are your future goals in sports?
ADAM: I'm hoping I can go and play college basketball somewhere after my senior year of high school.
MSR: Who has had the biggest influence on your sports career?
ADAM: My dad has had the biggest influence on my sports career because he has taught me everything I know about basketball and he constantly pushes me.
MSR: What have been your favorite classes in school?
ADAM: U.S. history and business classes.
MSR: What has been your favorite community service project?
ADAM: My favorite community service project was when the basketball team rang bells for the Salvation Army fundraising campaign because we had a good time and raised a lot of money for a great cause!
