RoughRiders fall short in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders were tied with the best team in the USHL in the third period Saturday night before falling short against Omaha, 5-3, before 3,657 fans at Ralston Arena.

Andrew Oglevie scored on a power play with 5:19 elapsed in the third period to pull the RoughRiders into a 3-3 tie, but Matt Nelson scored two minutes later to give Omaha the lead for good at 4-3.

Omaha added an empty-net goal with 56 seconds left for the final margin.

Corey Petrash and Oglevie scored the first two goals for Cedar Rapids. Oglevie scored both of his goals on power plays after Omaha had taken a 3-1 lead.

Danny Tirone saved 24 of 28 shots for the RoughRiders.

The outcome left Cedar Rapids with a 17-13-1 record for 35 points. Omaha stands at 25-6-4 for 54 points, the best mark in the USHL.
