Hobbs will play hoops for Kohawks

Aleena Hobbs of Cedar Rapids Washington has decided to continue her basketball career at Coe College, she announced Monday.

"I've finally made my decision!," she said in an e-mail. "I've decided to attend Coe College and play basketball for Coach (Randi) Peterson.

"Looking forward to being a part of Coach P's program and getting a great education at Coe," she said. "I'll be close to home, so my family will be able to watch me play."

Peterson led the Kohawks to a 16-11 record this season and a berth in the conference finals.

Hobbs, 5-foot-10, averaged 16.4 points and 6.6 rebounds for the Warriors this season. She also collected 55 steals, 35 assists and 17 blocks.

Hobbs was named second team all-state in Class 5A, first team all-Metro and first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference. The Warriors finished 18-5 and won a conference title.
