Beckman tosses gem for Prairie

CEDAR FALLS - Trey Beckman pitched a three-hit shutout Monday night as the Prairie Hawks blanked No. 7 Cedar Falls, 1-0, in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Cedar Falls.

The Tigers took the nightcap, 10-5.

Prairie snapped a scoreless battle in the opener in the top of the seventh inning when Nick Benson drove in Coen Brown with the game's only run.

Beckman surrendered two doubles in the opener, but Cedar Falls was not able to push a run across the plate. He struck out eight batters and walked four.

Prairie grabbed a 5-1 lead in the top of the third inning in the second game, but Cedar Falls exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third for an 8-5 advantage.

Drew Yanecek went 3-for-3 for Prairie in Game 2. Nic Mougin had two hits and Cooper Reittinger drove in two runs.

The split left Prairie at 13-21 overall and 11-15 in the MVC. Cedar Falls is 26-10 overall and 17-9 in the conference. Both teams have finished their league seasons.
