Quinn Cannoy wins Metro Spotlight Award

Marion senior Quinn Cannoy is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award forĀ high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Cannoy pitched a two-hit shutout Friday night when the Indians blanked Dubuque Wahlert, 4-0, in the opening round of the Class 3A district tournament.

Marion (23-15) will face Western Dubuque (18-19) in the district finals Monday at 7 p.m. in Epworth.

Cannoy, a four-sport athlete, has fashioned a 7-2 record and 1.34 ERA for Marion this season. He has 73 strikeouts in 67.2 innings, and opponents are batting only .180 against him.

Cannoy is batting .333 with three home runs and 31 RBIs. He is 9-for-9 in stolen bases.

Cannoy caught 34 passes for 604 yards and eight touchdowns for the Marion football team last fall. He averaged 8.5 points for the basketball team and placed fourth in the 110 meter high hurdles at the Class 3A state track meet.

Cannoy has committed to Coe College for football and track.
