No. 21 Kohawks spike Iowa Wesleyan

The Kohawks did it again Tuesday night.

The Coe College volleyball team is now 5-0 after sweeping Iowa Wesleyan, 25-10, 25-11, 25-20, at Eby Fieldhouse.

Coe senior Rachel Schaefer and junior Mackenzie Harbaugh, who have both been playing volleyball for more than 10 years, were key players for the Kohawks.

Schaefer said the reason the Kohawks have been so successful this year is the team's approach on the court.

“We all have the same determined attitude and we all want to do well,” she said. “We all want to be successful and we have all been working for it.”

She said having a positive attitude and making practices fun have helped the team be successful so far.

Harbaugh attributed Coe's success to the coaches and everyone who helps on or off court. "They are helping us through practice by making the drills a lot harder for us," she remarked.

“We are basically together all the time” said Harbaugh. “If we’re not in practice, we go to the (cafeteria) together, we do a lot of team bonding outside. Basically all my teammates are my friends.”

The Kohawks are ranked 21st in the nation, according to the AVCA.

“It’s a good thing, but it doesn’t mean we stop working hard," said Schaefer. "We have to continue playing our game and never let up.”
