Tavian Patrick wins Metro Spotlight Award

Tavian Patrick of Cedar Rapids Washington is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Patrick rushed for 212 yards and a 73-yard touchdown Friday night as the top-ranked Warriors defeated Muscatine, 42-21, in their Class 4A district opener at Kingston Stadium.

Patrick, a 5-foot-8 junior, has carried the ball 48 times for 589 yards and three touchdowns. He also has scored on a punt return.

Patrick ranks fifth in Class 4A with his 589 yards. He is averaging an eye-popping 12.3 yards per carry and has runs this season of 76, 73 and 70 yards. He has three 100-yard games this year with 212 against Muscatine, 139 against Jefferson and 123 against Iowa City West.

His 12 carries against Muscatine were his most this year in Washington's balanced attack.
