Cedar Rapids Kennedy junior Anna Fluent is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Fluent helped the Cougars win five straight matches at the Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball tournament Saturday before falling to Iowa City High in the finals. Kennedy defeated City High in pool play, but the Little Hawks turned the tables in the championship bout.

The Cougars climbed into the Class 5A rankings last week in the No. 10 spot with a balanced overall attack.

Fluent ranks second in the Mississippi Valley Conference in assists, according to QuikStats. She also has contributed with kills, digs, blocks and service aces.

Kennedy enters this week with a 25-11 record. The Cougars host Washington Tuesday night in the final match of the regular season. The regional tournament begins next week.
