Cedar Rapids Washington senior Reid Snitker is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Snitker is one of the leading players on the top-ranked Washington football team that will face West Des Moines Dowling in the Class 4A championship game Friday night in the UNI-Dome.

Snitker played a superb game in a 28-17 victory over second-ranked Bettendorf in the semifinals Friday night. He hit 7 of 10 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns for his best passing game of the year, just when the Warriors needed him the most.

He hit Isaiah Nimmers with a 34-yard touchdown pass to begin the scoring for Washington after the Warriors had fallen behind 10-0. He also hit Landen Akers with a 45-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to give the Warriors their 28-17 lead with the PAT.

Snitker, a two-way player, made 4.5 tackles against Bettendorf and fielded three punt returns.

Snitker has passed for 1,015 yards this year and run for 389. He has thrown 14 TD passes with only four interceptions.
