Hembera jumps to 3rd in Metro scoring

Cedar Valley Christian senior Shelby Hembera scored 41 points and grabbed 14 rebounds Saturday as the Huskies topped Lisbon, 55-40, for their fourth straight victory.

Hembera climbed into third place in career scoring in Metro girls basketball 5-on-5 history with 1,798 points. She passed Kate Galligan of Jefferson (1,797) and Morgan Paige of Marion (1,795) Saturday night.

Hembera needs 34 points to pass Shelley Sheetz of Kennedy (1,831) for second place in the scoring derby. Anne O'Neil of Kennedy is the all-time leader in the Metro with 2,494 points from 1996 through 2000.

Hembera ranks fifth in Metro history with 864 career rebounds.

Maggie Cach grabbed eight rebounds for Cedar Valley Christian Saturday as the Huskies raised their record to 6-2.

Cassidy Moore and Danielle Heiken scored 11 points apiece for Lisbon (1-8).
