CVC girls fall short in Fairbank

FAIRBANK - The Cedar Valley girls basketball team trailed by only sevenĀ points in the fourth quarter Saturday before falling short against Wapsie Valley, 68-41, in Fairbank.

The Huskies, playing without all-state forward Shelby Hembera, trailed 47-40 with six minutes remaining before running out of steam. They were outscored 21-1 the rest of the way.

Hembera has been sidelined all week with an ankle injury. Freshman Molly Hembera helped fill the void Saturday with 17 points and Maggie Cach scored 15 points.

Hanna Risse made five 3-pointers and poured in 28 points for Wapsie Valley.

Both teams have 7-8 records for the campaign.

CEDAR VALLEY (41): Slagle 0 0-0 0, Masterson 2 0-0 4, M. Hembera 8 0-1 17, Fields 0 0-0 0, Cechota 0 1-2 1, Polansky 2 0-0 4, Cach 6 3-5 15, Mafuta 0 0-0 0. Totals 18 4-8 41.

WAPSIE VALLEY (68): Platte 2 2-4 6, Risse 10 3-7 28, Byzynski 0 5-6 5, Power 1 0-0 3, Rohlsfen 1 0-0 2, Weepie 0 0-0 0, Joerger 4 0-0 9, Waldstein 0 0-0 0, Erhardt 4 1-1 9, Dinsdale 1 2-2 4, Buhr 0 0-0 0, Stepp 0 0-0 0, Gjerlow 1 0-0 2. Totals 24 13-20 68.

3-point goals - Cedar Valley 1 (M.Hembera 1), Wapsie Valley 7 (Risse 5, Power 1, Joeerger 1).
