Nic Uhlir of Linn-Mar is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Uhlir, a senior guard, is a key member of the Linn-Mar boys basketball team that will face Kennedy in the Class 4A substate finals Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center.

The sixth-ranked Lions enter the game with an 18-4 record and boast a 10-1 mark in their last 11 outings. The ninth-ranked Cougars enter the game with a 17-5 record and sport a 9-1 mark in their last 10 games.

Uhlir is averaging 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals for Linn-Mar. He gives the Lions a formidable backcourt combination, playing next to junior Jordan Bohannon.

Uhlir has scored in double figures in 16 games this season with 24 points against Bettendorf, 23 against Iowa City High and 20 against Dubuque Wahlert. He's enjoyed season-highs of six rebounds (twice), five assists and four steals.

Uhlir averaged 14.9 points last year as a junior. He's been more of a marked man this season and has sacrificed some of his scoring as part of a stronger overall club.
