Lucy Schneekloth wins Metro Spotlight Award

PDF

Lucy Schneekloth of Cedar Rapids Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Schneekloth, a senior, has enjoyed a spectacular career with the Jefferson track team as a vital member of their record-setting sprint relay squads.

Schneekloth helped the J-Hawks establish an all-time state best in the 4x200 relay as a sophomore in 2013 when Jefferson won the event at the Class 4A state meet in Des Moines.

Last year, she helped Jefferson win the 4x200 relay and capture the sprint medley relay at the state meet. And this year, she helped the J-Hawks tie the all-time state best in the 4x100 relay at the Drake Relays and also win the 4x200 relay at Drake in meet-record time.

Schneekloth, Jasmine Blue, Abbie Ranschau and Morgan Meese claimed all three spring relays at the district meet at Linn-Mar Stadium Thursday night and will be aiming for state titles in all three races at the state meet this week.

In addition, Schneekloth won the 200 meter dash at the district meet and will be among the favorites at state in that event. She placed third in the open 200 at state last year.

The J-Hawks rank first in the state in the 4x100 relay, first in the 4x200 relay and fourth in the 800 sprint medley.

Jefferson had not won a relay at the Drake Relays since 1986 before taking the 4x100 and 4x200 this year.
