FORT DODGE - The top-ranked Kennedy High School baseball team was knocked off its perch Saturday by eighth-ranked Fort Dodge.

The Dodgers swept the Cougars, 9-3 and 8-3, in a non-conference doubleheader with an impressive display of pitching, power and defense at Ed McNeil Field.

Fort Dodge (6-4) belted six home runs in the twinbill, including five homers over the ivy-covered brick walls in the first game.

Austin Christensen went 3-for-7 in the doubleheader for Kennedy (11-4) and saw his batting average drop from .684 to .644. He had two singles in his first two at-bats, giving him nine straight hits over the course of four games, but went 1-for-5 the rest of the day with three straight strikeouts.

David Yancey went 2-for-3 for Kennedy in the opener and hit a solo home run. Griffin Michael was 2-for-2 for the Cougars in the nightcap with two RBIs. Devon Jacobus and Matt Maiers also had two hits in the second game for Kennedy.

Alex Hayden started the first game for Kennedy and was tagged for eight runs and four homers in 4 1/3 innings. Cody Bell started the second game and lasted just seven batters, allowing four hits and a hit-batsman in his brief appearance.
