Prospect Meadows holding '100 Inning Games'

Prospect Meadows and Perfect Game USA will be holding three "100 Inning Games" to raise money and awareness for the campaign to build the Prospect Meadows baseball/softball complex.

The marathon games will be played on Friday evening, July 24 and all day Saturday, July 25 at the Perfect Game fields at the intersection of Mount Vernon Road SE and Highway 13. Sunday, July 26 will be used as a rain date, if needed.

Two fields will be used for youth baseball and the third field will be used for youth softball for the three "100 Inning Games." The fourth field will be used for two Perfect Game Youth Showcase Clinics, with members of the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Iowa Hawkeyes serving as guest instructors.

The intended ages for the games and showcases are 7 to 14 for boys and girls.

The cost for the event is $250 per team for a 90-minute game or $50 per individual for a showcase clinic. Everyone participating in a game or showcase clinic will receive a free T-shirt. Everyone participating in the showcase clinic will have their picture and statistics posted on the Perfect Game website.

The top three baseball and softball fundraising teams will receive the following prizes:

+ 1st place - A complete set of team uniforms
+ 2nd place - Each player will receive a bat bag
+ 3rd place - Each team will get a night in a Kernels suite

Additional pledges for prizes are encouraged.

The "100 Inning Games" will be broken into 90-minute segments. The score will be carried over from each 90-minute game to the next as new teams take the field. The complete boxscore for 100 innings will be listed on the Prospect Meadows website, along with each participant's name.

There will be contests, a silent auction, food and prizes throughout the day.

Prospect Meadows is an initiative to build 16 ball fields for baseball and softball in Linn County. It will be located at the intersection of Highway 13 and County Home Road, north of Marion. It also will include a Miracle Field for persons with disabilities.

Prospect Meadows will have ample parking and seating, a recreational lake, concessions, souvenir store and a walking trail. Organizers hope to break ground in 2016 and open the facility in 2017.

Entry forms for the "100 Inning Games" and showcase clinics are available at www.prospectmeadows.com or by calling (319) 393-1684 for more information. All forms are due by July 13. Checks should be made payable to Prospect Meadows Inc.
