No.7 Lions split with Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - The seventh-ranked Linn-Mar Lions split a Mississippi Valley Conference twinbill at Cedar Falls Friday.

Linn-Mar dropped the opener, 4-1, and rebounded with a 6-0 victory in the nightcap.

The Lions collected only four hits in the 4-1 setback. Andrew Gassmann went 2-for-3.

Tyler Annis, Jake Brandt and Gassmann combined on a six-hit shutout in the second game. Annis struck out five batters in four innings and got the victory.

Adam Stolley and Sam Crawford drove in two runs for Linn-Mar in the nightcap. Stolley belted a home run. Ryan Wyant went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

The split left Linn-Mar at 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the conference. Cedar Falls is 14-8 overall and 11-7 in the league.

The Lions are tied for second place in the Valley Division with Kennedy at 8-4. They trail Jefferson (10-2) by two games.
