WATERLOO - The Cedar Rapids Prairie baseball team grabbed a three-game lead in the Mississippi Division of the MVC on Monday night by sweeping a doubleheader at Waterloo West, 9-3 and 12-1 in six innings.
The fifth-ranked Hawks raised their record in the Mississippi Division to 15-3. Dubuque Hempstead split its twinbill Monday with Kennedy and fell to 12-6 in the division, three games behind Prairie in second place. Both teams have eight games left in the conference.
JP Havel-Pisarik tossed a complete game for Prairie in the 9-3 victory in the opener. He allowed three runs on four hits, with six strikeouts and three walks.
Cooper Reittinger went 4-for-4 for the Hawks in the first game with three RBIs. Jared Cadena was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and three runs. Cal Clark was 2-for-4. Ben Boldt hit a double and scored twice.
Keegan Sanborn pitched a complete game in the 12-1 verdict in the nightcap. He allowed one run on five hits, with two strikeouts and four walks.
Nic Mougin went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Boldt was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Clark was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs. Trey Beckman scored four times.
Prairie raised its record to 22-4 overall. The Hawks play at No. 9 Linn-Mar on Wednesday night.
Waterloo West fell to 1-13 in the conference and 1-15 overall.
