Olson, Good share Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Jefferson pitchers Alyssa Olson and Alissa Good are the co-winners of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday night.

Olson and Good, both seniors, tossed shutouts when the J-Hawks swept Kennedy Tuesday night when the Cougars were ranked No. 7 in the state in Class 5A. Olson pitched a four-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory and Good was credited with a five-hitter in a 9-0 victory in the nightcap.

Olson, a power pitcher, has an 11-4 record and 1.05 ERA with 120 strikeouts in 106 2/3 innings. Good, more of a finesse pitcher, has a 12-1 record and 1.70 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 78 2/3 innings.

Jefferson is ranked No. 5 in Class 5A with a 23-6 record.

Olson has collected seven shutouts this season with a no-hitter, a one-hitter, a two-hitter, two four-hitters and two five-hitters. Good has posted five shutouts with two one-hitters, a three-hitter, a four-hitter and a five-hitter.

Both J-Hawks plan to pitch in the Iowa Conference next season, with Olson at Coe and Good at Buena Vista. They have helped Jefferson make the state tournament in 2013 and 2014.
