Warriors, Cougars crack AP rankings

The Washington Warriors and Kennedy Cougars, who meet Friday at Kingston Stadium, are both ranked in the top 10 of the first Associated Press high school football poll of the regular season.

The Warriors, who defeated Jefferson 27-14 in their first game, are ranked No. 5 in Class 4A. The Cougars, who topped Iowa City West 34-31 in their opener, are ranked No. 9 in Class 4A.

The Xavier Saints are ranked No. 4 in Class 3A. The Saints open their season at home Friday night against Davenport Assumption. Their scheduled game last Friday night against Dowling was canceled due to a thunderstorm and will not be rescheduled.

Cedar Rapids Prairie received six points in the Class 4A poll for 16th place. The Hawks defeated Linn-Mar, 31-17, Friday night.

Cedar Valley Christian received one point in the 8-Player rankings after defeating Harmony, 65-6. The Huskies are in 21st place in the rankings.
