Klein wins Metro Spotlight Award

Dallas Klein of Xavier is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Klein, a senior, kicked a 35-yard field goal on the last play of the game Friday night to give the Saints a remarkable 38-35 victory over Iowa City Regina before a packed house at Regina.

Xavier trailed, 35-7, at halftime before staging one of the greatest comebacks in school history. Regina has won five state titles in a row and has a 76-2 record in its last 78 games.

Klein has kicked three field goals this season and has 31 PATs for 40 points. He booted nine field goals and 42 PATs last year for 69 points, giving him 12 field goals and 109 points in his career.

Xavier has clinched its district title and will host an opening-round game in the Class 3A playoffs on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The Saints (7-0) can finish with a perfect 8-0 record for the regular season with a victory at winless Marion this Friday night.

Klein is also a member of the Xavier soccer team that won the Class 2A state title last season.
