FAIRFIELD - Maddie Bach of Marion ran away with top honors at the Class 3A district country meet Thursday in Fairfield.

Bach covered the 5K course in 18 minutes, 20.2 seconds. She beat Joy Ripslinger of Davenport Assumption to the finish line by 24 seconds.

Marion placed third in the team standings, so the entire team will compete at the state meet in Fort Dodge Oct. 31. Davenport Assumption won the race with 48 points. Fort Madison edged Marion for second place, 81-82.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals qualified for the state meet.

The Xavier Saints finished fourth in the team standings. Jenny Dickes of Xavier finished fifth in the individual standings and qualified for the state meet.
