CRESTON - The third-ranked Kirkwood men's basketball team was brought down to earth Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles lost to 11th-ranked Southwestern, 85-75, in an ICCAC conference game in Creston for their first loss against an NJCAA Division II team all season.
Kirkwood led 33-30 at halftime, but Southwestern poured in 55 points in the second half to raise its records to 17-3 overall and 3-0 in the league. Kirkwood fell to 15-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Nick Richards scored 20 points for Kirkwood. Da'Rion King had 11 points and Jacob Olson added 10.
KeShawn Wilson popped in six 3-pointers and scored 24 points for Southwestern. Terrance Smith had 22 points for the winners.
