No. 7 Kennedy girls fall to Hempstead

The seventh-ranked Kennedy girls basketball team struggled in the fourth quarter and was upset by Dubuque Hempstead, 50-43, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game Friday at Kennedy.

The Cougars (17-4, 10-3) entered the fourth quarter with a 37-32 lead, but the Mustangs (7-13) tied the score at 41-41 with four minutes left and poured it on with a 9-2 run to finish the game.

Lela Sellers scored 14 points to lead Kennedy.

Madison Fleckenstein had 17 points to lead Hemsptead (7-13, 4-9).

DUBUQUE HEMPSTEAD (50): Bitter 3 0-0 8, Kluesner 2 2-2 7, Snitker 0 0-0 0, Fleckenstein 5 5-9 17, Kallaher 0 0-0 0, O’Hare 2 0-5 5, Krug 1 0-0 2, Doyle 0 0-0 0, Groneau 5 1-3 11. Totals 18 8-19 50.

KENNEDY (43): Langhurst 1 2-2 4, Hamilton 0 0-0 0, Hayden 1 0-0 3, Sellers 6 1-6 14, Timmerman 0 0-0 0, Hellweg 1 0-0 3, Dolphin 3 0-1 7, Runels 4 1-2 9, Meier 1 1-3 3. Totals 17 5-15 43.
