KCC baseball splits with Johnson County

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Kirkwood baseball team split a doubleheader with Johnson County Community College Sunday in Kansas.

The Eagles won the first game, 5-4, with the game-winning run scoring  on a balk in the top of the seventh.

Johnson County took the nightcap, 8-6, despite home runs by Cal Clark and Lorenzo Elion.

Kirkwood (1-3) took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning of the opener, but Johnson County scored four times in the bottom of the  sixth to tie the game.

The Eagles broke the tie in the top of the seventh and Kaden Wadle retired Johnson County in the bottom of the seventh to secure the  victory.

Hunter Lee pitched five strong innings for Kirkwood in the opener. He struck out eight batters and did not allow any runs. Wadle got the  victory in relief.

Spencer Wiskus went 2-for-3 and scored two runs for the Eagles. Tyler Bordner was 2-for-4.

Kirkwood trailed 8-4 heading into the seventh inning in the second game. The Eagles scored twice in the seventh and had the bases loaded, but the rally ended there.

Elion was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs in the second game. Wiskus  collected two RBIs. Korry Howell had two hits and General McArthur scored two runs.

Johnson County swept a doubleheader from Kirkwood on Saturday and won the series, 3-1.
