DuToit is 40th player to join IWSL

Nicole DuToit of Ellsworth Community College has become the 40th player to join the Iowa Women's Softball League for this summer.

DuToit, an outfielder, is hitting .500 with four RBIs for Ellsworth this season as a sophomore. She hit .250 with 10 RBIs last year.

DuToit, who attended Southeast Polk High School, has selected the new Central Division this season with games in Ames and Indianola. There is also an Eastern Division in Cedar Rapids.

The Iowa Women's Softball League was created by the Metro Sports Report last year and is the only collegiate summer league in Iowa. All current and former college players are eligible, including graduating seniors.

The IWSL will play a 16-game season in 2018, with a series of eight Sunday doubleheaders in June and July.

The entire registration process can be handled online at Click on the "MSR summer softball" tab at the top of the home page. That takes you to the softball page and all of our stories. Click on the registration link that accompanies each story.

The player fee is $100. Have a credit card handy to pay the fee through PayPal.

The IWSL features players from NCAA, NAIA and Junior College schools and is a competitive league in a relaxed environment. The league uses a continuous batting order and free defensive substitution for equal playing time for everyone.

The Hawkeye Convenience Stores are the title sponsor for the league.
