Mustangs prevail on penalty kick

Souleymane Diallo scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute Tuesday night to snap a 1-1 tie and help Mount Mercy edge Culver-Stockton, 2-1, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

The Mustangs were awarded the penalty kick when Oguzhan Bozkan was tackled in the box and Mount Mercy Coach Amir Hadzic called on Diallo for the decisive shot.

Culver-Stockton took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Rodrigo Alcobia in the 57th minute, but James Conversano countered for Mount Mercy in the 64th minute with an unassisted goal to tie the match.

Matias da Fonseca made four saves in goal for the Mustangs.

Mount Mercy raised its records to 6-2-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference. Culver-Stockton fell to 7-4-1 overall and 1-4 in the league.
